Strategy Writeup

Once the battle starts, you'll notice that this boss is being lifted by its followers. The weak spot of this boss is its head, so every time Melquiades is being lifted, you'll have to attack the arms and hands of its followers so that Melquiades is brought back down to your reach. Just be careful when you start to attack the arms since Melquiades will use its scepter to try to knock you back - you can easily avoid his scepter and follower's attacks by dodging away from it.

To identify if the beams will appear, the Archbishop will close his fist then multiple thin lights will appear on the arena. You'll have time to reposition yourself between the gaps before it widens. The pattern to defeating this boss is simple, attack his followers' hands when he is lifted and strike his head once he is back down.

If you defeat the boss you will see the writing "REQUIEM AETERNAM" upon the screen and rewards you with tears-of-atonement-icon-blasphemous-wiki-guide 5500 as well as unlocking the Trophy/Achievement: The Bejeweled Saint.

Attacks & Counters

Attack Counter
Phase 1
Scepter Slam The Archbishop slams his staff onto the ground if you are near him for a long time. You get damaged and knocked back if you are hit, once he raises his scepter, dash away to avoid getting hit.
The Archbishop's Beams Multiple beams will appear in a vertical line. You'll have time to reposition yourself by the gaps of the beams since it will telegraph a light first then the beam appears after a brief period.
The Archbishop's Followers The hands of the Archbishop's followers will appear from the ground and try to attack you. You can jump over it or simply dash away to avoid getting hit.
Phase 2
Sceptre and Beam Combo For phase 2, the speed of its attacks increase and it will be able to execute a combo where it will slam its spear on the ground multiple times as well as conjure the beams which follow his movement. Simply watch for the light of the beams to identify its positioning, or stay at one end of the arena to avoid getting hit.

Melquiades, the Exhumed Archbishop Lore

Melquiades is an archbishop wearing holy robes, vibrant jewels, a gold-plated crown, and wields a golden scepter. His followers witnessed his exhumation and some helped in the process of "cleansing". After being exhumed, they used wine to clean his bones, dressed him in silk, gold, and jewelry where they would kiss his forehead and hands. Afterward, Melquiades followers lifted him up into the air, chanted his name out loud, and made it look like as if he was walking.

"Take all the jewels, all the precious stones, all the gold from those chests to consecrate him, for today we will clothe the saint and raise his body to the highest."
