Warden of the Silent Sorrow is a Boss in Blasphemous. Warden of the Silent Sorrow is a giant guardian of the pits of the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow. Bosses are special Enemies that are uniquely named and must be defeated in order to unlock new areas, to progress the game, and to obtain unique gear.

Strategy Writeup
The Warden of the Silent Sorrow is the first boss players will encounter in the game. Once you've gained control of The Penitent One, you'll find yourself at the starting area of the game which also serves as the game's tutorial. The arena of the Warden comes up after discovering a Prie Dieu for the first time.
This boss only has two attacks, a jump attack where it jumps up into the air and slams itself onto the ground towards your last location. And after that, it telegraphs its second attack where it uses its weapon to create a shockwave by slamming its weapon onto the ground as well. Its attacks can be easily avoided, for the jump attack, you can easily slide/dash once it jumps into the air to get behind the warden, then follow up with a basic attack once it's back down onto the ground. For the shockwave attack, try to keep your distance so that you can calculate the time to jump over the shockwave as well as to avoid getting hit if you're up close.
The warden repeats this pattern for the whole battle and does not have a second phase. However, two of them can be later on encountered again at the Wall of the Holy Prohibitions.
If you defeat the boss you will see the writing "REQUIEM AETERNAM" upon the screen and you'll be rewarded with 300 and unlocks the Trophy/Achievement: A Long Path Ahead

Warden of the Silent Sorrow Lore
The Warden of the Silent Sorrow acts as an individual who is responsible for guarding a specified area, in which this case, the warden guards the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow. It mimics the movement of a monkey and it wears a green vest, an iron mask, and wields a chalice-looking object that is plated with gold.
Warden of the Silent Sorrow Notes & Trivia
- The wound that the Penitent one draws blood from in the cutscene after beating the Warden is likely a reference to John 19:34, specifically the wound that Saint Longinus made in Jesus Christ when he pierced the latter's side after His crucifixion, causing blood and water to pour out of the wound.
- The act of the Penitent One's filling his helmet up in the Warden's blood and putting it on his head is likely some sort of baptism ritual, comparable to the real-life equivalent of anointing one's head with holy water or oil as part of the sacrament of Baptism within the Catholic tradition.
