New Game Plus for Blasphemous contains information regarding the following assets that can be brought into playing another playthrough after finishing the game for the first time. The New Game Plus is a new feature introduced on the release of Stir of Dawn DLC, which is the first ever major update for Blasphemous featuring new Locations, Bosses, and Magic & Equipment. Players will see some differences with the initial playthrough, and get to carry over certain progress. This guide aims to cover all the important information for new and veteran players to ease transitioning into New Game Plus.

How to Unlock New Game +

To begin your New Game + journey, players need to complete the main story of Blasphemous first. After that, you can continue playing on the same saved file. To access this, when you are in the Main Menu of Blasphemous, select 'Pilgrimage' on your screen, then open the save file with the completed game.

From here, you'll see the option to 'Ascend' your save file. By doing this, it will change your save file to a Torment Run, meaning, you'll start a fresh game from the very beginning but there are some progresses and items that will be retained.

What changes in New Game +

After beating the main game once, players will be able to restart the game from The Holy Line, and the first change that players will see is starting the game with a Petrified Bell. This new item will produce a sound cue whenever you are near a destructible ground to lead you into a new area called Petrous, eventually leading you to a new NPC called Jibrael.

  • Choose your Penitence
  • 20% increase Tears of Atonement
  • New shortcuts, new areas, additional travel points, and new NPCs
  • Enemies will deal more damage and new bosses

What is the Stir of Dawn DLC?

Players will get the option to play the Stir of Dawn DLC after finishing the main story of Blasphemous. On average, this would require about 14 hours to complete, or double the timer if you would like to get the 100% completion. Once you have completed the game, players can begin a New Game Plus using the same saved file by going to the Main Menu and then turning the Pilgrimage into a "True Torment" run. The Stir of Dawn DLC was originally released on August 4, 2020, and is a huge update that features a new ending, bosses, features, mechanics, and challenges. The aim of the DLC is to fix in-game issues as well as introduce new locations, NPCs, and bosses.

What is carried over to New Game +

New Game Plus will basically let players restart the game from scratch at The Holy Line (the game originally starts in the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow). This reset will allow players to start from scratch while keeping the following:

New Game Plus for Blasphemous

The Stir of Dawn DLC brings Blasphemous to a whole new challenging level by featuring the New Game Plus. The New Game Plus is the playthrough of Blasphemous, with some changes in the world, but, is only playable after finishing the game once. The Stir of Dawn is initially released on August 4th for all owners of Blasphemous on Steam, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

The Penitence System

To begin your New Game Plus journey, The Penitent One will awaken in Cvstodia and will be immediately offered by The Miracle a choice. These are The Penitences or will be later known as The Penitence System. Each Penitence will offer a set of bonuses and handicaps that will let you experience the playthrough in a different way. These Penitences are aimed to give players a more challenging experience by changing certain rules and mechanics of the game.

Penitence of the Unwavering Faith

For players who are looking to have a magic-based, or Prayer-focused build, Penitence of the Unwavering Faith introduces new bonuses and handicaps dedicated to making the gameplay more favorable to cast Prayers.

Your melee attacks will be weaker, but Fervor/Mana will regenerate over time.

  • Melee attacks are half as effective.
  • Fervour regenerates over time
  • Taking damage will reduce your Fervor resource.

Penitence of the Bleeding Heart

For those that relish combat and do not fear death.

  • Your HP bar is replaced by Life Orbs.
  • Taking damage will remove an orb.
  • Bile Flasks will replenish multiple orbs over time.
  • Taking damage during the healing process will halt it.
  • Enemies will respawn every time you reenter a room.

Penitence of the True Guilt

For those that see failure as unacceptable.

  • Upon death, all Tears of Atonement are placed on your Guilt Fragment.
  • Falling in battle will maximize your Guilt Level.
  • Bile Flasks do not heal you but instead, refill your Fervour.

Jibrael calls himself the messenger of the Saeta, as well as a prisoner of The Miracle. The Penitent One's discovery of his existence will eventually bring about the dawn, or awakening of the Amanecidas, the 5 new bosses in Blasphemous.
